Murder On The Fourteenth Tee

This is book 3 of the Jeremy Pendelton Murder Series, a cozy mystery where Jeremy, an amateur sleuth turned investigative reporter, solves the murder of Ted Freed on the Pheasant Hollow golf course in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Freed was playing a complimentary round offered to all applicants to the men only golf club when he was shot dead on the fourteenth tee.

Jeremy conducts an investigation disguised as seeking a human interest story so as not to be seen as interfering with the authorities. His investigation takes him to Chicago, Freed's place of employment for many years, where he learns of Freed's troubled past involving gambling debts to casinos and embezzlement. 

Suspects abound including the president of Freed's employer, Gaming Products, Inc., Eddie Corvacci, a Chicago mobster turned Baton Rouge philanthropist, Freed's own brother, Roger, suspected of being a psychopath, and others. As Jeremy gets deeper into the case, the human interest ruse fools no one and he becomes concerned for his own safety. In the end, after several twists and turns, as you might expect, Jeremy solves the case.
