Cold Freedom

Cold Freedom

Description

During the coldest winter of the twentieth century, northern Europe is ravaged by brutal invading armies as WW II reaches a climax. Thousands of women and child refugees flee for their lives, walking and riding out of Prussia, hoping to reach freedom in the west. Eva and her family travel with their purebred Trakehner horses, crossing sea ice, strafed by bombers, and sheltering in barns on their epic trek. The mares carry unborn foals, their shoes falling off, legs injured, bellies empty. Eva and her family face incredible hardship along hundreds of miles of icy roads and snow-drifted fields. It is unclear to them whether they will survive, though love for her family and her horses keeps Eva determined to reach safety. This book is based on a true event and thoroughly researched to bring readers a gripping drama of survival against all odds.
